​Remember- Do your AA vehicle check before leaving civilization, fuel, oil ,hydrolic liquids , tyre pressures, lights and brakes, battery condition.
​​Check weather forcasts- before leaving, adjust your journey accodingly, check with your destination on route conditions and limitations.
NB -ALLOW ENOUGH TIME to reach your destination in daylight
​Travel times​- OFF ROAD graded 3- 5 allow 5 km per hour
OFF ROAD Graded 1-3 allow 12 km per hour
POOR GRAVEL allow 25 km per hour
REASONABLE GRAVEL ROAD allow 50 km per hour
​Vehicles tyre pressures​- Tyre pressures should be kept according to ground conditions, soft sand under vehicle, softer tyres at 1.2 to 1.5 bar depending on vehicle load.
- loose gravel and mixed stone, vehicle not heavily laden 1.5 to 1.8 bar, moderate load 1.8 bar, heavily laden 2.2 bar
- Hard rocky, brocken surfaces, 2 to 2.4 bar depending on vehicle weight
​Vehicle equipment- 1 spare tyre, if possible 2 spares. Jack,wheel spanner, small compressor, tyre repair kit, 2 litres spare water and 1 litre engine oil, small bottle break fluid. torch, GPS, emergency tow rope, small spade. Shifting spanner, with small tool kit.
Other items- camera, binoculars ,blanket, some food snacks, rain jacket, water, cold drinks, good map, cell phone with local emergency numbers, small emergency first aid kit.

​ Finding the best route to the Baviaanskloof and Baviaans accommodation, something different, unique and challenging, is more than half the challenge of visiting the Kloof itself. Its a little different and challenging with its " Fynbos 4x4 route" joining the main R332, Baviaanskloof Road, in the heart of the Baviaans, 2x4 Bakkies with experienced drivers can also do this 2x4 trail route, inot the Baviaanskloof as an adventure challenge.
Travelling in from Patensie in the East, you have the spectacular Groot Revier Poort, a marvelous natural feature. From the Willowmore Western side, the red rock faces of the Nuwekloof pass welcome you into the Kloof.
The Baviaans -Kouga travel route offers you a stunning Baviaanskloof accommodation venue at Baviaans Lodge and brings you into the Baviaans from the blue ocean, rocky shoreline of the Tsitiskamma, and the meandering R62 ( one of the prettiest scenic routes in the country).
